A Beginner’s Guide to Cannabidiol & Cannabis Therapeutics
What are CBD's?
We've created a beginner’s guide for cannabidiol & cannabis therapeutics to address key questions of CBD users.
The cannabis plant consists of over 400 chemicals with more than 100 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. Each of these cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system in a variety of different ways. One of the main cannabinoids is cannabidiol, or CBD as it is more commonly known. CBD is being used to treat a variety of ailments to include pain, anxiety and seizures. There are plenty of people who enjoy using CBD to relax and unwind after a long and stressful day.
While there is still plenty to learn about CBD and all of the potential health conditions that could possibly be treated or improved with a comprehensive CBD regime, there is plenty of research available to show the positive benefits that are associated with CBD use especially when it comes to epilepsy. “I have seen cases where a child who’s having hundreds of seizures a day got put on CBD and had a truly phenomenal benefit,” Dr. Orrin Devinsky, MD, director of the comprehensive Epilepsy Center at NYU Langone Health.
Which is the difference between CBD and THC?
Out of the 400+ chemicals that are found in cannabis, CBD and THC are definitely the most well known substances. Tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to as THC contains psychoactive qualities that are responsible for the mind-altering effects that users of cannabis experience. Cannabidiol or CBD, is not psychoactive and does not possess any intoxicating effects.
CBD is the perfect choice for those that want to experience the medical benefits without any mind-altering attributes. CBD is legal for sale in all 50 states whereas THC is only legal in states that have either a medical or recreational marijuana program.

What is the best way to take CBD's?
The preferred method for administering CBDs depends on the type of CBD treatment that the user is participating in. Those that are using CBDs as a skin care product to treat acne and muscle/joint discomfort will benefit from using a CBD cream. Those that are seeking pain relieving benefits would be better suited to use a tincture or an edible. Knowing and understanding the benefits of each delivery system is essential in determining the product that is going to best fit your individual needs.

What is the optimal dosage of CBD?
While there are plenty of articles about the benefits of using CBD, articles advising on the proper dosage of CBD are in short supply. To make matters even more confusing, the FDA has not created a Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for CBD. This means that CBD does not have an official serving size. It is important to keep in mind that a “one size fits all” approach to dosing does not effectively translate to CBD. A wide variety of factors need to be taken into consideration such as the weight of the individual, the concentration of the CBD, the severity of the condition that is being treated and the individual body chemistry of the user.Individuals with more body mass will require more CBD to properly experience the benefits that cannabidiols offer. A good rule of thumb to use when trying to determine the proper dosage is to administer 1-6MG of CBD for every 10lbs of body weight. The other important item to consider is the user’s pain level at the time of dosage.

What should one look for when choosing a CBD-rich product?

The second most important buying factor for any potential consumer to consider is the volume and concentration of the product. Volume is defined as the total amount in a product and concentration is defined as the amount per serving that is going to be administered. Achieving the proper balance of volume and concentration is essential to receiving the desired effects.
